Jim Cooper Cabinetry

A thirty-year carpenter repositioning from labor-heavy decks to the cabinetry work he actually wanted, with an online presence built to bring it to him.

Who the client is

Jim Cooper has been in home construction for over thirty years and runs a small, highly skilled crew out of Youngsville, North Carolina. He is on every job. He will also tell you himself that he is not especially tech savvy, and he takes payment by check or cash. He is nearing retirement age and still needs the business to run.

What came before

Thirty years of word of mouth and a Facebook page. The trouble with word of mouth is that you have to take what comes to you, and what came to Jim was decks: labor-intensive, heavy on coordination, long days in the sun, and thin on margin. He had done fine cabinetry for years and wanted to pivot toward it, since it is the more skilled, less punishing, more profitable end of his trade. But nothing about his online presence told anyone he did it. His custom inset cabinetry for a restored Granville County Victorian had aired on Magnolia Network's In With the Old, and a homeowner searching for a cabinetmaker near Wake Forest had no way to find any of that. The business was also called Cooper Renovation Services, which described the work he was trying to move away from.

What happened

Two cabinetry inquiries came through the form within three days of launch, and the work has kept arriving online since. The practical effect is not just more volume: it is that Jim can now say no. With cabinetry leads coming to him, he is no longer obliged to take every deck that turns up, which is the whole reason he wanted to reposition.

What was built

  • A repositioning from Cooper Renovation Services to Jim Cooper Cabinetry, so the name says what he wants to be hired for. The legal entity is unchanged
  • An online brand built around the cabinetry work: his projects, his crew, and the standard of finish, rather than a generic contractor template
  • A service-led site covering cabinetry, built-ins, refacing, vanities, and fireplace work
  • Service-area pages for Wake Forest, Rolesville, Youngsville, Cary, and the surrounding Triangle towns
  • A Google Business Profile, set up and optimized for his local market
  • The Magnolia Network feature displayed prominently, with the episode cited so the credibility is checkable rather than implied
  • A 24/7 intake form where a prospective client describes the project and uploads photos of the space. The customer gets an immediate confirmation, and Jim gets the lead with the photos attached the moment it lands, so he can look at the job and call back when he is off the tools. No voicemail backlog to dig out of
  • Structured data, per-page metadata, and machine-readable summaries, so Google and ChatGPT are given accurate information about who he is and what he does
